Remembering Roe Unites Pro-Life Movement
RememberingRoe.com Calls Pro-life Movement to Reflect, Repent, Restore
By Virginia Cline
How could we fail to acknowledge the more than 54 million children aborted in the U.S. since the horrific Roe v. Wade decision on Jan. 22, 1973—the most tragic and unforgettable landmark date?
The upcoming presidential inauguration is planned for Jan. 21, 2013, causing a shift of the March for Life to that Friday, leaving the anniversary without acknowledgement. Heartbeat International and at least 10 other partnering pro-life organizations did not want the 40th anniversary of Roe v. Wade to pass without a national day of prayer and fasting, so they created RememberingRoe.com.
RememberingRoe.com promotes a day of remembrance and hosts a variety of interactive tools, featuring an opportunity to sign up for a national hour of prayer via webcast on Jan. 22, 2013, beginning at 3 p.m. EST led by the National Pro-life Religious Council.
This site is also the driver for a national red card campaign to send 1.2 million pro-life postcards to the president in order to remember the 1.2 million victims of abortion each year in the U.S. alone. Democrat or Republican, the leader of the free world needs to hear from Americans about the sanctity of every human life on the 40th anniversary of Roe. For a small donation, visitors can sign up for a red card—personalized with their name—to be delivered to the White House on Jan. 22, 2013.
Forty years of destroying life in the womb is the battle defining our society. The promotion of aborting a child as “choice” has endangered our very civilization by attacking the dignity of human life and denigrating motherhood. The escalating evil of abortion calls for a supernatural response found only in the unity of every pro-life person in America imploring Heaven’s intercession.
For this day, Jan. 22, 2013, we challenge every pro-life individual to kneel together as one nation under God and call upon Him as we remember, reflect, repent and plead for restoration.
Abortion is the deadliest battle of good vs. evil in our lifetime, and the strongest weapon against this kind of evil is prayer and fasting. Our hope is that members of the pro-life movement recognize the significance of this important defense in the battle of life and connect with RememberingRoe.com.
There’s a place at the site to share your prayer and your story of how you first heard about Roe v. Wade. Some of us are old enough to remember exactly where we were when we learned about the now infamous U.S. Supreme Court decision. For those born after Roe—the generation that survived Roe—you are invited to share your reflections on when and how you learned that the Supreme Court had determined that every woman has a right to abort her baby.
I remember my father’s tears on January 22, 1973. It was the first time I had ever seen him cry. I was 11 years old when I found him crumpled up on the stairs, shuddering, with his folded hands pressed to his face as he sobbed. I will never forget how he was curled up in the fetal position as he wept. It took him no less than 10 minutes to choke out the fact that seven men on the Supreme Court had decided it should be legal for a mother to abort her baby. On that particularly bleak Monday afternoon, he cried for the millions of babies he knew would die at the hand of Roe.
My pro-life passion was ignited that day after witnessing my father’s heartbreak and hearing his cries: “I could have done more. I should have done more to stop abortion.”
Imagine if our stories listed online at RememberingRoe.com inspired Christians everywhere to do more to help each mother reject the choice to abort her child.
Click here and share your story.
The goal of RememberingRoe.com and the goal of Heartbeat International is to make abortion unwanted now and unthinkable for future generations. The Holy Spirit has the power to enkindle in us the fire of compassionate love so that the pro-life movement can renew the face of the earth for LIFE. Let us unite so that we may never forget.
Remembering Roe
Site Launched to Unite Pro-Life Movement in National Day of Prayer, Reflection
COLUMBUS, OH – With the 40th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade decision approaching, Heartbeat International and at least 10 other pro-life organizations are partnering to launch RememberingRoe.com, an interactive website commemorating Jan. 22, 1973, the day abortion became legal in the U.S.
The site offers interactive tools and historical information regarding the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision to federally legalize abortion through all nine months of pregnancy. RememberingRoe.com serves as the hosting platform for a national hour of prayer via webcast Jan. 22, 2013, beginning at 3 p.m. EST.
Visitors can register without charge for the online prayer hour at RememberingRoe.com beginning immediately and up until the time of the event, which will be led by the National Pro-Life Religious Council.
For a small donation, visitors can also sign up for a red postcard, personalized with their name, to be delivered to the president on Jan. 22, 2013, reminding him of the importance of every human life. Organizers hope to deliver 1.2 million postcards to the White House, symbolizing the number of children aborted in the U.S. each year.
Additionally, RememberingRoe.com provides an outlet for visitors to share where they were when they heard about this shocking legal decision, and how they plan to pray for an end to abortion. Visitors can watch videos of spokespersons from sponsoring organizations, discussing how they have been affected by Roe v. Wade.
Organizers are urging members of the pro-life movement across the nation to observe a full day of prayer and fasting on the date of the anniversary, asking God for an end to abortion — which has produced over 54 million aborted children in the U.S. since 1973 — and bring about a restored, life-affirming culture to the nation and around the world.
Confirmed sponsors include: Heartbeat International, Option Line, March for Life, Concepts of Truth, Family Research Council, Focus on the Family, Good Counsel, Life Legal Defense Foundation, National Pro-Life Religious Council, NIFLA, Priests for Life, and Students for Life.
The National Pro-life Religious Council is a Christian coalition which acknowledges Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and is called to affirm and witness to the Biblical standard of the value, dignity, and sanctity of human life.
Founded in 1971, Heartbeat International is the first pregnancy support association in the U.S. Heartbeat’s Option Line (1-800-712-HELP/OptionLine.org) connects women facing unexpected pregnancies with the emotional support and practical help they need to welcome new life.
We need YOU!
Pro-life movement needs precinct captains
By Virginia Cline
Maybe you didn’t know it, but there could be political vacancies right within your local community that need your pro-life leadership. Based in your neighborhood, the most local level of political office is that of precinct captain.
In the U.S., a precinct captain (also referred to as a central committee member or a precinct chairperson) acts as a liaison between a specific political party and the voters of a local precinct. Precinct captains are elected by their neighbors, and generally serve as volunteers, though in some cases they receive a small stipend from their respective political party.
A precinct captain serves his or her community by:
- Facilitating voter registration and absentee ballot access
- Leading “Get Out the Vote” outreach efforts
- Assisting with voters’ transportation to the polls
- Distributing party literature
- Promoting his or her respective political organization
As an informed voter, concerned with pro-life values, you can start by finding out who your precinct captain is, then educating him or her about pro-life issues on a regular basis. Search online to obtain a list of your county’s precinct captains by entering your political party, along with your county and state.
I found the list of my county’s precinct captains under the “Committee” tab on my party’s website. There are 143 precincts listed for my county, with 21 vacancies for precinct captain. In the next few weeks, I plan to look through those vacancies to see if I can match them to the precincts where my pro-life friends live. The next step is to encourage them to contact their local party representatives and express interest in becoming a precinct captain.
In your effort to get your friends involved as precinct captains this November, don’t miss out on the chance to serve your community by seeking to become one yourself.
The pro-life movement needs precinct captains. Your precinct’s leadership position may be vacant, or your current precinct captain may not be seeking reelection. Consider getting more involved, while encouraging your pro-life friends to join you in taking an active role in the electoral process.
Learn more about becoming a precinct captain today, and help advance the pro-life cause through the political process in your community for years to come. To find out how you can impact future elections through your local precinct captain position, watch this simple, straightforward presentation: http://instantteleseminar.com/?eventid=30560385.

Vote for Future Generations
Your vote is critical on November 6th. Future lives depend on it. Please take time now to make sure that you are registered to vote.
However, it’s not just your vote that will save future generations. Every vote from the entire pro-life community is needed to expose and stop the greatest government expansion of abortion since Roe v. Wade. If we fail to vote our pro-life values on Election Day, the federal government may soon challenge our right to provide alternatives to abortion unless we also provide contraceptives along with abortion referrals. The administration has already forced religious organizations to provide abortion-causing drugs to employees.
We desperately need your help to Get out the Vote (GOTV)!
Step 1: Reminding U.S. citizens about the sacred duty of voting is the first step to GOTV. Future generations are counting on you to activate everyone you know. It is crucial to encourage each person in your circle of influence to become a registered voter.
Step 2: Educating voters is the second step to GOTV. We need elected officials who are willing to advance solutions instead of abortions. Voter Guides are now available. Voters need to understand where each candidate stands on life. It’s time to galvanize everyone in your community to ensure that pregnancy help organizations can continue providing life-honoring support without government overreach.
Step 3: PRAY!
Forcing pro-life citizens to pay for abortions and to provide abortion-causing drugs goes against our American tradition of religious liberty and destroys our nation’s moral compass.
It was Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and the third U.S. president, who said:
“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.”
U.S. voters know that abortion is devastating to Americans. We all know that aborting a child is not healthcare. America needs elected officials willing to advance a culture of life. America needs people with a passion for life to inspire others to vote.
You are a vital part of Heartbeat International’s pregnancy help network. Please help voters realize that compassionate help and unconditional love empower mothers to welcome the next generation.
Voting your pro-life values and motivating others to do the same can make abortion unthinkable for future generations.
Votes save lives.
Stopping the Abortion Agenda
Stop Abortion from Defacing America
Every vote from the entire pro-life community is needed to stop the federal government from advancing taxpayer-sponsored abortion and pouring a million dollars a day into Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion provider. The current administration has the most pro-abortion agenda in U.S. history.
Forcing pro-life citizens to pay for abortions and abortion-causing drugs goes against our American tradition of religious liberty and destroys our nation’s moral compass.
“The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction,
is the first and only object of good government.” – Thomas Jefferson
It's frightening to know that if we fail to vote our pro-life values on Election Day on Nov. 6, the federal government may soon make providing alternatives to abortion unlawful. Pregnancy help organizations may be forced to provide abortion-causing drugs and abortion referrals.
We know that abortion is defacing America. We recognize that aborting a child is not healthcare. America needs elected officials willing to advance a culture of life.
You are a vital part of Heartbeat International’s pregnancy help network. Please educate other voters so they understand that compassionate help and unconditional love empower mothers to welcome the next generation.
America needs people with a passion for life to inspire others to vote. Voting your pro-life values and motivating others to do the same can make abortion unthinkable for future generations.
Voting is the only way to stop the abortion agenda of NARAL, Planned Parenthood, and their political cohorts.

Moms, Babies Once At Risk for Abortion Share Gratitude for Pregnancy Help Centers with U.S. Lawmakers
by Virginia Cline
Advancing Pro-Child Policies
As the federal government mandates insurance coverage for contraceptives, including abortion-causing drugs, and promulgates additional rules for implementing Obamacare, Americans may be forced to pay for the heinous practice of abortion. Heartbeat International was on Capitol Hill recently leading moms who want to advance pro-child policies at the national level.
These moms are former clients of Heartbeat’s pregnancy help organizations who, when given the help they needed, each chose life for her child.
Central planners or those opposed to women having children in unstable economic situations, embrace abortion and abortifacients as a way of limiting the non-taxpaying population in a nationalized healthcare program. Often referred to as “family planning,” abortion is abhorrent to the majority of Americans. When hard working taxpayers are forced to pay for abortion, most will face a moral dilemma as distressing as being asked to assist in aborting a child.
While the most pro-abortion administration in the history of the United States promotes taxpayer sponsored abortion and mandates anti-child policies, because it’s cheaper to not have children, Heartbeat has a heightened responsibility to clarify for U.S. lawmakers the importance of alternatives to abortion. In fact, the only way to ensure that a woman is not coerced or forced into aborting her baby is to make sure there are always nonprofit pregnancy help organizations and that women know how to find them.
For more than 40 years, Heartbeat’s pregnancy help network has been providing emotional support and practical resources to women who have faced untimely pregnancies. On July 19, pregnancy center clients who refused to sacrifice their children, often despite pressure to abort, joined Heartbeat International President Peggy Hartshorn, Ph.D. in our nation’s capital to publicly proclaim their gratitude for the life-saving work of pregnancy centers.
These women are thrilled to have an opportunity to tell their stories to national leaders. Courageous moms like Jessica Gore, who was excited to bring her eight-year-old daughter to meet her elected officials, testified to the fact that pregnancy help organizations provide a life-changing experience.
“I went to the sonogram appointment at Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center even though I had already been to Planned Parenthood and thought that abortion was right for me,” said Jessica from Burleson, Texas. “But when I looked at the sonogram screen, I knew that I had been lied to. What I saw on the screen was not a ‘piece of tissue’ like Planned Parenthood had told me. The tiny flicker of light, a heartbeat, was my child. I was instantly in love.”
“I would have been lost without the guidance of the Pregnancy Aid Center,” said Jessica. “Through their programs I learned how to care for my infant daughter. I would not be the person I am today if it hadn’t been for the caring people of the Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center and the experiences I’ve had there. Without them, my daughter would not be alive and I cannot imagine my life without her.”
Shelly Louis, of Durant, Oklahoma, is another mom who took the opportunity to let congress know that pregnancy help centers are good for women.
“Unmarried, financially insecure, and six weeks pregnant with my third child…abortion was a very real option for me,” said Shelly. “Since I was receiving no assistance from the baby’s father and he was encouraging me to terminate the pregnancy, I chose to seek an abortion.”
But Shelly quickly discovered she couldn’t go through with it. After an emotional breakdown, a teacher told her about the Pregnancy Center of Bryan County.
“Only because of their encouragement and compassion was I able to think clearly about my options and make the right choice to protect the life of my unborn child. My arrangements to visit the abortion clinic were cancelled and Kiree’s life was saved,” said Shelly.
“The support of the Pregnancy Center did not stop there. During my entire pregnancy, I attended weekly lessons, which taught me numerous things about the prenatal process and how to care for Kiree after she was born. By attending these lessons, I earned Mommy Money, which I used to ‘purchase’ clothes, shoes, blankets, diapers, and wipes in the on-site Mommy Market,” said Shelly.
Like these courageous moms, voters need to remind policy makers that abortion is not healthcare.
Forcing pro-life citizens to pay for abortions, or abortion-causing drugs, goes against our American tradition. It was Thomas Jefferson, author of the Declaration of Independence and the third president of the United States, who said, “The care of human life and happiness, and not their destruction, is the first and only object of good government.”
You can call for the repeal of Obamacare by contacting your elected officials over the phone, in a letter, or in an email. If your representative supports taxpayer funded abortion, you can vote them out of office on November 6th.
Please join with us in encouraging elected officials to advance pro-child policies that begin with promoting the life-saving work of pregnancy help organizations so that Heartbeat International’s compassionate network can empower even more women to welcome the next generation.

Heartbeat's Babies Go to Congress
Rejecting Abortion
Grateful Moms tell Congress about Compassionate Pregnancy Centers
Women who received support from pregnancy help centers and rejected abortion are bringing their children to meet with U.S. lawmakers as part of Heartbeat’s Babies Go to Congress® on July 19.
“Every woman deserves support during an unexpected pregnancy,” said Heartbeat International President Peggy Hartshorn, Ph.D. “And when women receive unconditional love along with the practical help necessary to welcome new life, they want policy makers to know that they are grateful. Because of this, Heartbeat International developed Babies Go to Congress® to give moms, served by a pregnancy help center, the opportunity to introduce their babies, who were at risk of abortion, to their elected officials.”
Women have been thanking pregnancy help organizations for their support for decades and these moms are thrilled to have an opportunity to tell their stories to national leaders. Courageous women like Jessica Gore, who is excited to bring her eight-year-old daughter to meet her elected officials, will testify to the fact that pregnancy help organizations provide a life-changing experience.
“I went to the sonogram appointment at Burleson Pregnancy Aid Center even though I had already been to Planned Parenthood and thought that abortion was right for me,” said Jessica from Burleson, Texas. “But when I looked at the sonogram screen, I knew that I had been lied to. How the Supreme Court decision impacts you
The Supreme Court decision, National Federation of Independent Businesses et al v. Sevelius, Sec of Health and Human Services, upholds the constitutionality of Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA or Obamacare).
Don’t be discouraged! This will not stop or slow down Heartbeat, Option Line, and our affiliated pregnancy help ministries that save babies, help women and families, and create a culture of life at the grassroots level, 365 days a year.
Pro-life efforts must be directed to repealing this law and to stopping the promotion of abortion and all other so-called “reproductive health care” that are part of the law and implementation rules coming from this administration. We are now led by the most pro-abortion President and Cabinet members (especially Secretary of Health and Human Services) that we have ever had in the history of our country. The fact is that we have the right to elect new leaders and change existing laws.
Now is the time to get more involved, speak up, and turn out the vote.
Heartbeat International will be doing everything possible within our capability as a non-profit, charitable and religious organization to get people registered to vote and to help everyone know what is at stake and where candidates stand. The November 6 election is crucial and your participation is vital if we hope to turn our country back toward the core values on which we were founded:
• Liberty (especially freedom of religion) and
• Life, endowed by our Creator
If we must live with laws or regulations that deeply violate our consciences, civil disobedience and its consequences may be our only alternative.
Our hope is in the Lord. Let us pray and fast for God’s forgiveness for the sin of abortion and for His grace and protection for us as pro-life citizens, for our leaders, and for our country.
Yours in Christ,
Margaret H. Hartshorn, Ph.D., President
